Orcid Dr Maria Lopez Zambrano joined IERC in October 2020 as a postdoctoral researcher in the area of building energy modelling to work on the MiniStor project, funded by the European Commission. Before this role, she worked at MaREI based in NUIG on the NZEB retrofit project and was also awarded the SFI industry fellowship. In total, more than 10 years working in research, including a previous stay in Spain working at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the University of Seville.
Maria holds a PhD from the University of Seville (Spain) in “Evaluation system of retrofitting solutions for energy saving in historic buildings”. She holds a degree in Building Techniques and Systems, specialising in energy efficiency and Passivhaus from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. She is a Building Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and a Technical Architect from the University of Seville. From the latter University, she also has postgraduate courses such as the Expert in Architectural Project Execution with BIM technology and the University Expert in Occupational Risk Prevention.
María is a certified Health and Safety Coordinator in three specialities: Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics and Psychosociology, Certificated Project Manager (PMI) and she is also a Certified Passive House Designer by the Passive House Institute. She has experience in the industry working as a health and safety coordinator and as a site manager in the restoration of heritage buildings in Spain.
Her research interests are the adaptation of existing buildings to the new energy transition, especially heritage buildings and building energy simulation and data science.
