The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) formerly the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment (DCCAE) has tasked the International Energy Research Centre to deliver a series of papers on energy and climate innovation with a view towards informing policy in key strategic areas of energy for Ireland.
From this request, the IERC Energy Policy Insights for Climate Action (EPICA) project is developing and publishing a series of peer reviewed papers, which are providing insights into best practice examples within and outside of Ireland and which will deliver empirical-evidence based suggestions for policy considerations.
The following key research areas are the focus of the EPICA paper series:
- Heat – Technologies around the decarbonisation of Heat
- Buildings Stock – Modelling the Irish landscape in the context of energy efficiency targets and citizen-centric considerations
- Storage – Technologies that make sense for Ireland in the context of the growth of renewables market and CO2 mitigation targets.
- Business Models – Research focused on Business model development and including financial innovations around the above technology areas.
- Digitalization – how Ireland can become a forerunner in the Digital Europe landscape. What being a digital powerhouse means in terms of buildings and Energy Communities, national assets and the energy trilemma.
