Major American multi-national, United Technologies Corporation (UTC), was the first company to locate a research facility in Ireland as a direct result of the IERC’s establishment. As a leading global provider of technology products and services to the building systems and aerospace industries, UTC located the new research facility (UTRCI) in Cork in 2012. As one of the founding industry members of the IERC, UTC was initially incubated at Tyndall National Institute, but has since grown to over 40 people and relocated to dedicated facilities at Penrose Quay, Cork City. The company has gone on to establish a unique energy and security research centre in Ireland and has creating over 40 new jobs over the past four years through a €15m investment.
